Guttmann's classic book, still unrivaled in its scope as the work of a single author surveying Jewish philosophy in all its periods, is, therefore, deliberately called Philosophies of Judaism (although in the German original, and in the expanded Hebrew translation from which the English was prepared, the title appears in the singular, Die Philosophie des Judentums), and not a "history of Jewish philosophy." On the other hand, Professor Read's introduction brings Bradwardine's solution of the problem of insolubles into direct dialogue with modern logic, represented by the theories of figures such as Alfred Tarski, Saul Kripke, and Frederic Fitch.
